Unsure how to spend your Friday night? We were too, until we found out this evening is the official launch of the seventh Guangzhou International Festival of Light.
Light exhibits will be hosted across Guangzhou, although, from previous experience, the real action takes place at Huacheng Square, in Zhujiang New Town, where light displays will be held from today until November 19.
Bridges crossing the Pearl River will be decorated with colorful lights until May 2018
Frequent riders on Guangzhou’s APM line should be aware that, between 6-9pm on weekends during the festival (Friday-Sunday), trains will not stop at the following stations: Canton Tower, Haixinsha and Guangzhou Opera House.
If you are planning to attend this year’s Guangzhou International Festival of Light, prepare yourself for China crowds at their finest (read: worst). Last year’s event brought an epic horde to Zhujiang New Town – resulting in long lines at the metro, packed buses, fare-hiking taxis and shoulder-to-shoulder festival goers.
Police also implemented crowd control measures on numerous occasions last year at Line 5’s Zhujiang New Town Metro Station.
You’ve been warned!
